How to help your Melanin flourish in 2022

In our last blog on how to “Get Rid of Dark Spots”, we mentioned a very small detail on Melanin. Apart from giving color to your hair and skin, melanin also protects your skin from the harmful rays of sunlight, as well as protects us against skin cancer. Through this blog, we will be sharing essential vitamins and ingredients that will help you protect your body’s natural skin pigment, Melanin.

As our mama says… “Don’t forget to take your Vitamins!!”

Vitamin A:

Vitamin A is an important ingredient in the production of Melanin and in addition, is also very beneficial to boost your skin immune system, preventing breakouts. Carotenoid, which is responsible for giving red, yellow, orange color to the vegetables is present in Vitamin A. Thus, also plays a major role in melanin production.

You can get Vitamin A from several fruits and foods as well as supplements

  • Orange
  • Carrots
  • Squash
  • Sweet potatoes
  • Fish
  • Meat
  • Cod liver oil
  • Broccoli
Our Body Oil's main ingredients is Apricot Kernel Oil, which is rich in vitamin A to help your skin rebuild and regulate cellular growth

Vitamin E:

You might be aware of Vitamin E’s benefits for your body. Along with it, Vitamin E is a powerful antioxidant and reduces the harmful effect of UV rays on your skin, while soothing your skin. When consumed orally, it is believed to increase the amount of melanin in your body.

You can take Vitamin E supplements and also consume these Vitamin E rich foods:

  • Almonds
  • Hazelnuts
  • Peanuts
  • Avocado
  • Mango
  • Bell Peppers
  • Spinach
It is also essential to make sure you are applying natural vitamin E enriched products to your skin as well Natural Body Butter

Vitamin C:

Like Vitamin E, Vitamin C has many benefits for your skin and you all might have heard of Vitamin C brightens the skin. But how? It protects your skin cells from damaging free radicals caused by UV exposure. Vitamin C helps to repair the damage from sun exposure and collagen loss by encouraging healthy cell turnover and regeneration.

You can use Vitamin C serums or also get from the following food items:

  • Orange
  • Lemon
  • Plums
  • Cherries
  • Guavas
  • Broccoli
  • Sprouts
  • Papaya
  • Strawberries

Antioxidants slow or prevent damage to the skin cells and also help in increasing melanin production in your body. Micronutrients like Flavonoids or polyphenols present in the vegetables we eat show the potential in increasing melanin production. Consuming flavonoids is a healthy way to prevent any damage to your skin. Foods high in antioxidants are:

  • Bay Leaf
  • Garlic
  • Cinnamon
  • Red chili
  • Pomegranate
  • Dark Chocolate
  • Beans
  • Beetroot

Some herbs, especially the ones rich in flavonoids show some benefits in protecting the skin from sun damage. Herbs like green tea and turmeric are rich in flavonoids and polyphenols that might increase melanin production, thus promoting healthy skin. You can consume green tea daily or also use essential oils. You can also add turmeric to your daily tea, or blend it in a smoothie!

The ingredients listed above have many additional benefits too. So, when you consume these Vitamins and nutrients you will not only be protecting your Melanin but also protecting your skin and your overall health. Plus, there is nothing in this blog which you can not find in your nearby vegetable stall or shop.
